2019 Western Plains Mercy Award Winner

May 3, 2019

Congratulations Maria Cortez as the Western Plains 2019 Mercy Award winner!

The Mercy Award recognizes one employee from each of LifePoint Health’s hospitals who profoundly touches the lives of others and best represents the spirit and values on which the company was founded.

The Mercy Award is an annual recognition program established in 2001 to honor the life and contributions of Scott Mercy, LifePoint’s founding chairman and chief executive officer. The award is the highest honor a LifePoint employee can receive.

“At Western Plains, we share LifePoint’s commitment to Making Communities Healthier, and we recognize this is supported by the good work and service of our employees on and off the job,” said Scott Smith, CEO. “We are extremely proud to recognize Maria for her efforts on behalf of our patients and our community. She goes above and beyond each and every day to ensure that every person she encounters receives the highest level of care and compassion.”

Maria recently went so far above and beyond in helping a family in an extremely heart-wrenching situation. It isn’t just this one situation that makes Maria such a deserving award winner, she is both humble and passionate when it comes to helping others. She unselfishly dedicates her time to caring for people both inside the hospital and throughout the community, never asking for praise or recognition.

She is an active member of the Western Plains Crisis Team, and is always offering her time outside of “normal” work to help families in their time of need. She has also gone and above and beyond in her involvement and volunteerism in community efforts to serve our local residents throughout the community.

Maria will be considered for LifePoint’s 2019 companywide Mercy Award. The companywide winner will be announced this summer and honored during a ceremony in Nashville, Tenn., in August, to which Maria and all hospital winners are invited to attend.
